Busy Busy Busy!

So yeah....

I never did get a classroom tour posted. Nor did I even bother to blog about the beginning of my school year! 

Teaching Kindergarten is a lot of fun. Exhausting fun. Stressful fun. Crazy fun! Haha! :)

Me and my 27 students (yikes!) have been adjusting to Kindergarten! We are learning to get along with one another and get into a routine! I am AMAZED at the difference in my classroom in just 15 short days of school! They are growing and learning more and more each day!

We have been working on colors, color words, shapes, and letters. Here are a few things we've used to review those concepts:

This is an emergent reader that reviews colors and color words. It is $2.00 on TpT if you are interested. I'm so cool that I forgot to take pictures... ;)

"I Like the Butterfly" is an emergent reader that also reviews color words. It is $1.50 on TpT if you're interested. Again, no pictures of final work! :) Did I mention that I have 27 (soon to be 28) students! :)

Room Tour 2012-2013

A Glimpse into my Classroom...

I have finally taken some pictures of my classroom to share! I always like seeing the creative ways other teachers organize/lay out their classroom so I thought I would go ahead and share mine! :)

This is my Calendar Math Board: My classroom has an ocean theme so I try to theme it out accordingly. I also try to use blues and greens with all decorations to have a common color theme. I think it brings the room together quite well!

 This is the messy front of the room. You can see the Wilson's Fundations alphabet chart, my ocean-themed number line (1-20), my small group board (divided by color), Word Attack Strategy posters for Guided Reading, and the Wilson's Fundations standard sound card grid.

 This is my word wall. I had to get creative this year. I didn't have an abundance of wall space but decided to utilize the large magnetic partition in the back of the room. The pocket charts have a magnetic strip on the back. I love my Carson-Dellosa word wall cards...at least that is where I THINK I got them! Sorry about the blurry picture!

 Some of Our Fall Activities!

My students and I explored apples a few weeks ago. We did a lot of apple-themed activities and this one is my favorite. I stole the idea from a blog (if it is yours, please let me know so I can give you credit!) I found through good old Pinterest! 

We labeled the parts of an apple. It went along with Treasure's Reading Series activities so I thought it would be a perfect way to practice the skill! A few days after we got the labeling parts together, we wrote about apples and placed them with our apple!

 Here is a close up of the finished product! I think they turned out GREAT!

We've also been learning the different features of sentences, exclamations, and questions! I wanted the kids to practice this in a fun way so I created my Falling Leaves game. The kids really seemed to enjoy it... :)

They can't wait for him to answer! If only you could see the anticipation on their faces!

Another Apple Freebie!

So, I'm still planning ahead! I created a board game for 2-4 players. Students roll the die and advance their player that number of spaces. The first player to reach the Orchard ("Finish") wins! I recommend printing these onto tagboard or cardstock paper. Laminate the game pieces but simply place the game board in a plastic protector sheet!

Planning ahead

If you're anything like me, you are planning ahead for the Fall! I just cannot help myself but start to plan and yes, GET EXCITED! :) I've created an "Autumn Apple Games" activity set on Teachers Pay Teachers. I was thinking it's only fair to SHARE with the wonderful people who have supported me and joined my blog! 

I LOVE DJ Inkers fonts and graphics. I find myself wanting to use their products when I create my items for use in my classroom. In fact, the "Fun in the Sun" book was made using DJ Inker graphics! 

I created an apple spinner game that I can't wait to use with my new first graders in the Fall!

I hope you like it...As a matter of fact, I hope that the link will go to it! I'm still figuring out Google Docs so forgive me if it isn't quite right just yet!
