Antlers Forever and Common Core Standards!

So far, I’m keeping my word about blogging more! 

My hubby and I ran several errands yesterday and ended up in Cabela’s. For those of you that don’t know what that is, it is a large outdoor sports store that specializes in all things guns, hunting, camping, etc.

I can’t lie. I wasn’t jumping for joy when we pulled up to the store because as most of my good friends know, I am NOT an outdoorsy person! I eventually found my way to the children’s section and started to enjoy myself a little bit! J

I found a really cute book folks! It is called “Antlers Forever”. It is written by Frances Bloxam and illustrated by Jim Sollers. It is about a young moose who doesn’t realize that his antlers will fall off every winter and grow back each spring. It features rhyming words and a really funny scene where a wise owl tries to help Frances by “screwing his antlers back on”! I snatched the book up right away because I thought it would be PERFECT for a science lesson!

The book even has a section in the back that teaches you about how and why moose antlers (even adults!) fall off and grow back each Spring! I’m telling you, this is a GREAT book! Hope everyone is enjoying (or very close to enjoying) their summer breaks!

Feeling a little sad but mostly blessed! :)

It’s the end of my school year and I’m feeling just a little blue… J I miss my sweethearts already (it’s only been one day since I’ve seen them!)

I wanted to share some cute pics from Field Day! Our school rented inflatables and OH. MY. GOSH. They were so much fun! My students really enjoyed them and, yes, I enjoyed them too! I hadn’t been in one of those in FOREVER. The kids thought it was great so it was definitely worth it!

On the last day of school, a few of my sweeties brought me some gifts! I CRIED. A LOT. The gifts were so very sweet and it pretty much hit me that this was the last day I have with these wonderful kiddos! It does make me feel SO BLESSED though.

It says: "I love you so much. Underwood Jadelynn love each other. You are my favorite teacher."  Again,  lots of my students just use "Underwood" instead of Mrs. Underwood! LOL

This is from the same little girl. I believe it is a fireworks show and the caption is "Summer". SO SO cute! :)

It plays "Amazing Grace" when you open it. That's one of my favorite songs!

This is a jewelry/music box. I just love it!

I've seen these on Pinterest! I was so excited when my little sweetie handed it to me! AND...I cried! :)

On the back, she had prepared this for me too! HOW CUTE IS THIS!?

I truly love to teach and my job is so fulfilling. These tokens of appreciation let me know that I am doing something right! As the school year has ended and I am getting into “Summer mode” I look back on a year of successes and failures. Summer is the perfect time to reflect, gather ideas for improvement, create some new products, and RELAX!

I hope to post again SOON with some of the inspirations I’ve found!

So…

I know! I know! I never ever blog…ever!

I hope that this summer and in the coming school year I will BLOG BLOG BLOG!

Here’s what1^st grade has been up to:

We made this SUPER cute craft in anticipation of Summer’s arrival! I won’t lie, we made it all the way back on April 26^th! I haven’t been ready for summer since then or anything!

"In the summer I like to play in the pool." He made his character with a mustache!

I like to swim.

"We play in the water."

"I like to do a front flip on my trampoline!"

I made one! It says, "I go to Cedar Point." (If you've never been, GO!)

"I'm going to get in the pool."

It is made by “A Cupcake for theTeacher”! Go check it out!

I also taught my students all about bears. I usually like to study bears during the fall but we didn’t quite get to it this year!

We walked and "talked" like bears!

I used my SmartBoard to help the students fill out a KWL chart about bears! I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Smartboard!

One more "movement" photo and an activity from the unit. Students wrote what their day would be like if they woke up as a bear. Then, I had them write if they were correct and what else they learned after reading "If You Were a Bear"!

Since tomorrow is Memorial Day, I wanted to take the chance to thank ALL members of our Armed Forces. As the daughter and sister of Army veterans, I know the sacrifices made by members and family members. Thank you to all men and women who keep our country safe and free!
